Electric Vehicle System Patents in India

Patents help us to keep track of the inventions and developments in a particular sector. The pressure on the depleting conventional energy resources and the constant awareness of the climatic change has made the automotive industry to think out-of-the-box and come up with alternate solutions. As a result, we come across several inventions that are eco-friendly. Besides, India also contributes to inventions leading to developments in this sector. Let us have a glance at some of the electric vehicle system patents in India.

Ather Energy Pvt. Ltd.

Patent Application No: 201841011751

Invention Title: A turn indication system of a vehicle and a method for operating the same

Description: The invention is a turn indicator system for a two-wheeler. There are two sensors in the system. One sensor senses the turn angle of the vehicle while the other sensor detects the instantaneous speed of the vehicle. The system also has a processing subsystem to compute a turn angle difference and compare it with the turn angle threshold. Based on the turn angle and turn speed, the system will also update the turn off time. Finally, it will deactivate the turn signal when the turn time equals the threshold turn off time.

Patent Application No: 201841029696

Invention Title: A battery pack management system

Description: The invention addresses the need for a better management system for modern battery packs. The battery pack has a power source and an auxiliary control module. The power source provides power to at least one input or output terminal. Meanwhile, the battery module will receive power once the management module activates the power convertor.

Patent Application No:Ā 201841020711

Invention Title: A system and method for providing assistance in the positioning of a vehicle

Description: The patent discloses a method to assist in the parking or positioning of a two-wheeler or three-wheeler vehicle. It lies in the fact that there is no well-established system to assist in parking the two/three-wheeler vehicles. Once the vehicle receives input through the graphical user interface, it activates the vehicle control unit. This, in turn, transmits a signal to a motor controller, which ensures factors such as speed limit and driving trajectory assisting the user in parking or positioning the vehicle.

Patent Application No:Ā 201741045820

Invention Title: A frame assembly for a two-wheeler vehicle

Description: A vehicle frame supports the mounting of various parts of the vehicle. Besides, some vehicles have a frame assembly (front frame, mid-frame, and rear frame), which enables the users to replace one frame without removing the other. However, removing the frames to gain access to the internal machine parts is tedious and time-consuming. This invention addresses the difficulty and proposes a modular frame arrangement that prevents one from completely detaching the frame to access internal parts such as a motor.

Yulu Bikes Private Limited

Patent Application No: 202041019033

Invention Title: Electric vehicle system for shared mobility

Description: In general, electric vehicles derive their power source partially or fully from electrical power. Currently, there is no well-defined system to ensure the safety of the battery and ensure it is tamper-proof. Moreover, these vehicles lack provisions to function in adverse conditions such as the depletion of battery power. Hence, this invention overcomes the drawbacks of current technology with an electric vehicle system that has shared mobility with a modular battery system.

Altigreen Propulsion Labs Private Limited

Patent Application No:Ā 201641025822

Invention Title: Battery pack mounting arrangement for hybrid electric light commercial vehicle (truck)

Description: The invention claims an improvised Rechargeable Energy Storage System (RESS) for an automobile with a ladder frame chassis. Furthermore, it mounts an additional RESS inside an existing automobile with racks hung from the underbody frame that holds an equal number of batteries on both sides of the vehicle. Moreover, the invention comprises a tray holding frame to fix the power and control electronics module closer to the battery pack.

Okinawa Scooters

Patent Application No:Ā 201711022888

Invention Title: Microprocessor controller for electric two-wheeler

Description: The invention claims a 60V 30 A microprocessor controller with a MOSFET device to incorporate the switching mechanism when it receives feedback signals from the surrounding conditions and auxiliary devices. Besides, it comprises a regenerative braking system that increases the overall speed of the electric vehicle.

Patent Application No:Ā 201711022814

Invention Title: NMC lithium-ion battery with a battery management system

Description: The patent claims a design of a 60V 24Ah NMC lithium-ion battery with 160 cylindrical cells. These cells are arranged cubically and can support the motor and motor controller of electric two-wheelers.

Patent Application No:Ā 201711022441

Invention Title: Permanent magnet BLDC motor for electric two-wheeler

Description: The invention is a Permanent Magnet Brushless Direct Current Hub Motor with a maximum power output of 1200W. The electronic configurations of the motor are 60V 800W. The motor consists of an aluminum outer casing and an internal winding sequence that works based on the controller’s feedback.

Ultraviolette Automotive Private Limited

Patent Application No: 201741010719

Invention Title: A vehicle with housing for removably retaining at least a portable energy storage device

Description: The invention is a novel vehicle that consists of a housing assembly to retain one or more portable energy storage devices. The housing assembly comprises a housing frame, a receptacle, and a motion controller. The housing frame is coupled to the frame of the vehicle, and the receptacle is coupled to the housing frame to receive or remove the portable energy storage devices. Meanwhile, the movement controller controls the linear and angular movement of the receptacle.

Inventions in electric vehicle systems are increasing in our country. Researchers are making several efforts to design economically feasible, eco-friendly electric vehicle systems that are customized to suit our needs. Hence, we can look forward to several improvisations and novel technologies that can bring about the large-scale commercialization of electric vehicles in India in the near future.
